Re: Your all missing one point
Not to argue with you - But the main reason the cost of living in US is high compared to India is that, the standard of living in US is higher. Most software engineers dont drive a car in India - they have 100cc motor bikes ! And they live in crowded polluted cities where there is no 24x7 supply of running water or electricity .. yeah the basic needs of a human being ! If all the Indian software engineers decide to live in 3 or 4 bedroom house, drive a Honda accord or Tayota camrey and do things that an average American would do, they would demand a salary compared to an American too ! Anyway the question remains - 'How would Americans compete with Indias' ? Few ways:-

1) By proving that the extra efficiency/talent/knowledge he has is worth the difference in salary

2) By lowering the standard of living and lowering the salaries.

3) Wait for India to be a developed country like America, so that Indian salaries would reach American levels.. But for that you will have to wait for few centuries.

4) Pass law that prohibits shipping jobs abroad.
