I think you misunderstand
Far be it for me to interpret what others mean but from what I've read, the condemnation is more on the hypocrisy of calling it "Free" code. It isn't free, it is encumbered by fairly onerous licensing conditions that, just like MS licenses, have a "take it or leave it" attitude. There is nothing wrong with that but calling GPL code "free" is a real insult to other OSS code licenses like the BSD licenses.
