Even the alarmists would consider that alarmist.

If the earth is getting warmer and if that trend continues, then there can be population disruptions with consequent economic damage and, worse, loss of life. But extinctions?

Using your metaphor of a car rolling downhill, which is effective, the car may be attached to a tow truck, making any action in the car irrelevant. Or it may be an illusion of motion, as when a moving train passes yours as it waits in a station. That's equivalent to a localized effect inappropriately generalized.

We should have better informnation before yielding power to those determined to use it against progress.
