The scientific conclusion...

... on the human role in global warming is that it's impossible to prove.


One supporter of the idea noted in print that if the effort were to continue long enough to obtain greater certainty, the opportunity to have political effect might pass.

This is about obtaining influence with a far from confirmed hypothesis.

Part of the problem is that the earth warms and cools, sonmetimes substantially, for no discernible reason fairly often. And these temperature changes are not consistent everywhere.

Models are not very useful in this type of analysis because they are based on assumptions that do not prove accurate. The times when past models underestimated warming effects, as with ice sheets, are widely reported. There's a cance we don't hear about errors in the model that have overestimated climate change.

During the 1970's there was a campaign to obtain political influence in response to Earth's cooling. Newsweek recently remembered its support for that effort.

But this time is different. Somehow.


To suggest a standard for evaluating claims: if the scince is accompanied by a recommendation of wholesale changes in the way people live, the important part of the effort has been the plan to gain control, rather than the analysis of available data.
(Including sketchy and unreliable dayta from decades ago.)
