Prejudice towards the inconvenient.
For reasons I probably will never understand, the focus tends to be on the most inconvenient way possible to manage the issue of energy needs. One example is the lack of enthusiasm (or downright hostility) to the idea of having more people work from home. Here is a way to use today's technology to solve the problem of energy and time wasting commutes. However, since it is actually convenient, it isn't as sexy to environmentalists as lecturing people on how they should abandon their home in the suburbs and move to a crappy apartment near work, spend several extra hours of quality time with bums and the insane on public transit, or ride a bicycle to work.

This is just one example, but I think it proves the point as well as any. There is a primary obsession with making peoples lives less comfortable, and the issue of climate change or limited energy supply is really just a convenient way for many to push lifestyle changes on others. If cold fusion were perfected tomorrow and allowed for unlimited cheap, clean, and safe (including environmental) power, do you think the greens would stop pushing for all of the lifestyle changes they want now? Would they be ok with SUVs and middle class single family home ownership all of a sudden?
