Dude, 60Hz + Diode
equals intolerable flicker (30Hz). You want the parallel in opposite polarity, or run it through a large rectifier bridge (which may produce a smoother light, but would lose power to heat and otherwise be redundant).

LEDs respond much quicker than incandescent bulbs, so the cycle would be much more noticeable. This, coupled with a noticeable flicker rate, could even be dangerous to photosensitive epileptics (which are more common than many realize).
