One large solar farm is not reality
the 100 by 100 miles is not a suggestion of how to do it, it's an description of the capacity. It's easier to use as an example than saying 1000 farms of 2 by 5 miles. One reason current power generation favors large plants is that the fuel delivery is more efficient when there are fewer locations to deliver fuel to.

If the generation of power is more distributed, it is not as vulnerable to everything from local bad weather to terrorist attacks.
