That's where it is produced. It costs money to truck it.
While in some ways I agree with you. I think your post is a bit simplistic. Before Athlon and Opteron , AMD had some processors that were superior to Intel but not superior enough. Once they had something that blew the doors off Intel and held that lead for more than a few months, people came running. Electric cars just weren't there yet (too slow, too expensive, limited range) = no demand == no $$$. Create a car that (fast, good looking, good range, and decent price) the demand will be there.
