That's not a nice thing to say about Microsoft Employees.
You make the arguement that "Google hires scum of the earth. Does this mean that you feel that people that Microsoft hires are also scum of the earth as that is who this guy left.

Both companies are trying to get new employees to make their offering better. At the moment, Google has some advantage as their stock has gone from a mere $85 (Apr. 30, 2004) or so to over $430 (goog)

When Microsft was booming, they were the place to work at (and made people very waelthy) but now (after 20 years or so), they are an established company thai will probubly not see a major stock pop any time soon.

Lee made the news due to:

1) Ballmer was frustrated with loosing people to google (threatened to remove their air supply) and needed someone to jump over so they (Microsoft) could bring Google to court, thus showing the people at Microsoft that it was not a good idea to jump!

2) Lee solicited the work at Google, perhaps due to Microsoft not providing enough challanges, better stock valuations at Google, need for a change of environmnet, etc. His methods were highly questionable.

3) Google recruits and hires very smart people, as does Microsoft (but without the rigerous academic tests that can be found in MIT journals). Both Googla and Microsoft want the top players on thetir team!

4) Both Microsoft and Google are making (or at least trying to make) inroads into the Chinese economy (and thus, improved revenue growth through new markets).
