because some of the SOA gurus may give you a different definition at different times dependent on which story they think might persuade you to buy something from them.

Big contrast with the hugely successful relational model where the theory and definition came first and then the implementation. Especially as this success has been achieved with an implementation of theory as corrupt and inadequate as SQL.

SOA doesn't work on paper as it has no theory. How could you even tell if something working in practice is SOA unless you have a model to judge it against?

Perhaps customers might do well to stay away from the logic free zone of SOA altogether?
