Privacy, as a concept, is just dead
This is sad. I'm sorry for the family and understand. But if their son wanted them to know something, he would have sent it to them or copied them.

There are billions of people I do not copy on my email messages. Should they (even if they are close blood relatives) be able to want to see my personal, privileged communications? I haven't seen my relatives in over 20 years. I don't need them to know anything about me (not that they'd be interested). But still . . . .

IMHO, the court's decision, while undoubtedly well-reasoned, was wrong. Because one's electronic life will survive well-beyond their physical life, it does not mean that the expectation of privacy in effect when they were alive should disappear when they're gone.
