My goodness, Mac users are SO defensive!!!
You seem quite dismissive of the software

How many times can I say that MacOSX is great before it begins to sink in? Are people allowed to have differing views on things or is it Apple users who are the real sheep in the computer world? Can you people get it through your thick heads that liking some things about Apple doesn't preclude me from not liking other things about Apple, and it certainly does not preclude me from liking Windows on a PC?

I think OSX is a great OS, XP is a very good OS, and Linux is a neat OS. I simply don't think that having to use 2 year old laptop hardware makes up for the small advantage you get with OSX over XP. I will repeat, software is subjective so don't come back and say "but OSX is far better than W1NbL0w$".

But forget about all that for the moment. To
imply that the software is somehow incidental to the overall
experience of ownership is a fast run off a steep clif.

Of course software is an important factor and XP has been absolutely rock solid for me. No viruses, no worms, no spyware, and I spend no time on system maintenance. I'm sure you will automatically read this paragraph and think "oh, he hates OSX because he likes XP" and I suppose that is your right as a zealot but it doesn't make you any less wrong.

Anecdotally, a slew of people are returning some very favorable
verdicts on the Apple experience. These are people who have
been devout PC users.

And this automatically means they hate XP? I have very favorable comments about OSX and and I have very favorable comments about XP. Does that confuse you?
