- How about another angle?
- 'Direct marketer' has a real optout email address. You obligingly pass your email address. *He* won't send you any more email. But what is to stop him from selling his mailing list with your email address. Even if this is against the law, it would be next to impossible to prove anything, and the buyer of the list is free to spam the list. All this law does is give spammers the option of not putting in fake headers and return addresses.
