Canon Ink Wastage
I used to think Canon printers were great with the individual ink tank technology, only replacing the colour that runs out. That was until I had demonstrated to me how much ink Canon (also Epson) printers waste. Try turning your printer on and off 50 times (without printing anything) then see how many pages you get out of your cartridge. So much ink is wasted on priming the seperate print head, so every time your printer goes into sleep mode (After 3 days). I found out HP is the only printer manufacturer that doesn't waste huge amounts of ink, due to having the print head built into the cartidge.

Canon's stated page yields are only valid when you stack it with paper and print non stop, not many consumers I know do this.

Don't belive me simply unscrew your printer and see the giant foam absorbant pad that runs under the whole length of the printer. Where HP's is the size of a postage stamp.
In regards to the only replace the colour that runs out, it is near impossible to print exact cyan and magenta, so it mixes all three colours anyway. In some business though that may print more yellow in a letterhead for example it may be cheaper, that's when you buy a HP Business Inkjet (has individual colours) and reap the rewards of an extremly low cost per page (often cheaper than a laser printer)
