MIT backs Brazil's choice of Linux over Microsoft
Holy crap, this article is so full of crap.

"We advocate using high-quality free software as opposed to scaled-down versions of more costly proprietary software," Walter Bender, director of the Media Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said in a letter to the Brazilian government. "Free software is far better on the dimensions of cost, power and quality."

MIT advocates high quality free software but tells them to use linsux. This is a contradiction.

But free-software advocates within Lula's administration believe Microsoft should be excluded from the program.

And watch as Brazil is segregated from the rest of the world.

Many government agencies are migrating to Linux to cut millions of dollars in software licensing costs.

Too bad just the opposite happened. None of these governments completed the migrations, was delayed, and went over budget. Munich anyone? I thought so.

"If the source code is proprietary, it is hidden from the general population. This robs them of a tremendous source for learning," the authors said.

It doesn't rob them of squat. The general population aren't programmers.

You would think MIT of all schools would see the facts from fiction. Clearly their engineering/compsci department isn't as good as we would think. At any rate, this article just tells the linsux users what they want to hear instead of the truth. Now they will all go to sleep quietly dreaming of Linus dancing with sugar plums in their heads giving that splended sense of false hopes.
