Exactly!!
Granted, I'll admit that our education system does have its flaws.

But our higher education system isn't such a problem as it's being made out to be.

Exporting of jobs is the problem. Why take out student loans to get a degree in Computer Science, or Engineering, if you know you can't make a living off of it, much less pay back the loans, because the companies involved in those fields would much rather hire overseas at a pay rate that would, in the US, keep you in poverty? Who would say "Yes, I want to work my butt off so that I can be broke!"??

Simple. Companies have been, more and more, have been throwing US workers aside in pursuit of maximum profits by next quarter. College students aren't stupid, they see where things are going.

Now we're supposed to tell them "Oh, money's not important. You should go for the sciences for national pride" or somesuch? That do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do stuff doesn't fly.

Let's face it, students are learning by example here.

Being a Computer Science major myself, and having gone through the job market, or lack thereof, for the past few years, I'm honest about it, and tell students that, if they need to make a steady living, Comp Sci isn't a good idea.

The funny thing is, the two particular companies mentioned in this article, Microsoft and Intel, aren't hurting financially. Most other companies claiming "well, we have to offshore so we can make money and be competitive" are generally being dishonest about things, too, but I mean really! Has MS or Intel EVER had a problem where they were rapidly losing ground to the competition ONLY because of high US wages?

Hmph.. always a rotten feeling when someone's lying to your face.
