Intel
There's another angle, and believe me I'd like to hear about US Corps lining up to pay for college. There are many fine engineering schools, but why should middle class students have to choose from a smaller pie when large corporations are investing in college infrastructure but not the individuals who attend. In recent blogs Intel has been cited for its commercial ineffectiveness with the Itanium chip. Sun has for its efforts with Fujitsu been working on their own, and much has been made of the core design. Texas Instr. makes many chips for handhelds, and AMD has certainly come back from near drowning. So before I cry about poor ole' Bill and Michael and their selfish methods I'd want to know why Intel is not itself at the pinnacle of the industry. It's good for a company to get knocked off its perch. But it's a mistake to say America hasn't got enough brains. It's equally a mistake to say it's bad for business to ally with brilliant people around the world, with the caveat they are not looking for something for nothing. It's freighening to think we give away our hard work to someone who may turn around and bomb us.
