That last point is dead on. Even the reason that people perform spamming activity is due to real ignorance of the whole internet and its purpose. Their greed causes them to envision the internet as a completely unlimited realm that they can expunge inumerable pleas for the user to buy or use or whatever, when it really is very limited. Besides, so much of the bandwidth is already being used by people addicted to pornography. They could care less about even reading email, unless it supplies a new fix or another sensation they haven't felt yet. Spam tries to promise this, but even the porn addicts know it doesn't deliver. The issue of email security exists because of people who could care less about actually using email to communicate!
