Ditch what can't be secured.
Linux is not perfect, but it is *securable*.
Unfortunately, Windows is not securable -- do
mostly to its monolithic architechture. You
have a high level of control over your UNIX/
Linux systems. The default capabilities of
Linux make it magnitudes harder to attack than
Windows systems, not to mention the insane
security add-ons that can be applied. Add-ons
such as Security Enhansed Linux created,
distributed, and used by the NSA (www.nsa.gov/
selinux). As far as spam, there are several
open source offerings that run on UNIX/Linux
that are highly effective at defeating spam.
Check out SpamAssasin for example
(www.spamassassin.org).
Linux may not be a security silver bullet, but
it's next to it.
