RE: Apple is a loser
>When a song have been compressed into a format it can only be change to another format at the cost of huge quality degradation.

could you possibly demonstrate a further misunderstading of the issue?

First of all, the compression format and file format are not the cuplrit. AAC is not proprietary and Apple didn't develop it. The only thing Apple has added is the Fairplay DRM model. That's the portion of the file that the iPod can interpret that other players capable of AAC playback cannot (of which there are only a few.)

Secondly, this only applies to tracks purchased through the iTunes Music Store. Any other .mp3 or AAC you have in iTunes can easily play on another player (though iTunes will not manage the transfer for you.) Any CD ripped via iTunes into .mp3, AAC, AIFF, etc. can also play in any other device. Fairplay is not added to any of those. The only songs affected at all are those purchased through iTMS, and even those can be burned to a standard CDR and play in just about any CD player in the world!

>If they whant to buy apple DRM crippled soung they are illegaly forced by apple to buy a inferior overhyped crippled portable player (the Ipod that is).

Concerning the DRM, remember that's not Apple's or Napster's or any other music store's choice. That is forced by the RIAA. Concerning an inferior player... inferior to what? There is not a single mp3 player that can match the iPod right now. While there are some that offer similar (in some cases even greater) hard drive and battery capacities, or additional features for the same cost, they are all clunky and difficult to use. A major portion of the appeal of the iPod is it's incredible interface. The iPod feels natural to use. When I'm walking around with a few thousand songs on a player and I want to listen to something specific, I like to be able to find it and select it quickly and easily. The iPod offers that. No one else comes close.

>ALL apple products are of inferior quality and way overpriced. Designed for the incomptent user who don't have a clue of what a computer (or music player) should be...

Well, aren't we high and mighty... please enlighten us, Mr. Omnipotent, what shoud a computer (or music player) be?
