Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Some nice and welcomed touches but not enough on their own to get people to switch. - Especially me!

I left the Ubuntu Family when upgrading to the next version failed on ALL levels! The biggest disaster was changing the repositories to point at the new version. The Upgrade Tool proceeded to to delete the old system FIRST!!! and the Upgrade Tool was part of the deletion process too!!! This, of course, left the machine unusable and all was lost.

I tried the other two methods of upgrading further down the road and after three releases of Kubuntu, I'd had it!!!!!

I am also fed up with this 6 to 8 month release cycle. It frequently breaks stuff that was working just fine in the previous release. I also find repositories for some strange reason start to become inaccessible if you put off even one upgrade to the new release.

So while the graphical improvements are welcomed and hopefully indicate improvement, The Ubuntu Family of Linux has left a long lasting distaste for (K)Ubuntu. I have left OpenSuSE because they are adopting the same release cycle policy. I liked OpenSuSE because their release policy was more than 12 months.

In terms of Windows, we upgrade to the next version about every 5 years. Linux Distros would greatly benefit from from longer release cycles and better support. Would I pay for Linux if that were the case? - You bet! In heartbeat! - Because it is the O.S. of my choice. The question now though, is for how much longer. Looks like I see Win-7 64-Bit in my future as the 64-Bit Vista runs super and has none of the problems seen in the 32-bit side.
