- Windoze vs. Linux
-
One result of Micro$ofts predatory domination
of the PC O/S market is a habituation of O/S
users to Windows and an irrational belief that
Windows is easier to use and better than
alternative O/S's.
I've followed Linux since 1997. Ubuntu 9.05
Jaunty is a slick Linux distribution that
installed effortlessley on my late model
computer and detected all the hardware
including a very recent HP printer.
Ubuntu's O/S startup time is one quarter . . .
ya . . . that's right on quarter the start or
boot time of Windows Vista. Program execution
such as the start time for Open Office (a free equivalent of Microsoft Office) starts in one
third the time.
The advantages are almost endless . . . no
BSOD, no screen lockups, no program crashes, no
need to fragment your hard-drive (it's not
needed because of the superior design of the
file system) . . . and the list goes on and on.
The fact is that Micro$oft has a policy of
economic blackmail to keep software developers
from porting their software to Linux that is,
to black list them if they develop software for
Linux. Google that if you don't believe me.
MicroSucks uses their huge cash surplus to
brainwash people into thinking Windows IS
easier and better. The reality is that there is
ample support and better support available for
Linux distributions such as Ubuntu for the
right fee.
When you consider that all Linux distributions
are free for the downloading or can be
purchased for $50 (which includes at least
$1000 worth of Micro$oft equivalent software),
a subscription to a support line for $50 is a
incredible bargain (and their are many very
good support lines for Linux).
The great thing about Google Chrome is the very
deep pockets Google has. And they cannot be
intimidated by Microsucks. Also, name
recognition of Google will take the luster from
Micro$ucks. People will start thinking that if
Google (who they use and trust) made it and
support it, it must be okay. That's how people
think . . . the computer semi-illiterate
anyway.
I can't really blame people for hanging on to
their Windows Blow Up O/S . . . I have Vista
that I only play games on. That is the only
reason I still have Windows . . . games (this
may be my last PC as most high end games are
ported, some made directly for consoles). And
it is true . . . Linux distibutions have been
too slow to make their distributions user
friendly.
But with my discovery of Ubuntu 9.04, I had an
epiphany that the times had changed. Linux
(Ubuntu) finally was as easy (actually easier)
to install and use as any of the different and
costly, and technically inferior Windoze O/S. - Posted by: TDurden1937 Posted on: 07/16/09 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
