Skype calls & IM are not "cell" phone calls & SMS/MMS
Skype calls & IM are not the same as "cell" phone calls & SMS/MMS. Mobile operators charge for "cell" phone calls & SMS/MMS. Just look at your mobile phone bill.

The discussion is about using your smartbook/netbook essentially as a "smartphone".
