Things could change
It is likely that Blizzard is dropping the no-LAN
bomb so that people are calm by the time they
announce new battle.net 2.0 features, which could
include the ability to create local private
matches by first meeting up on battle.net.

So many people are having knee-jerk reactions to
this news when they don't even have all the
information. It's a sign of maturity when one
waits for all the facts before making their
decision.

In this age of ubiquitous broadband and
bittorrent, the volume and sophistication of
piracy has grown tremendously since 1997 when
starcraft 1 was released. And compared to the
piracy-mitigation measures that Blizzard could
have implemented, requiring games to originate on
battle.net (whether local private or internet-
based) is hardly an issue.

I think people are overracting and sending a
message to Blizzard that the most vocal critics
of their decision are simply only the childish
minority of their customer base.
