- Then an open standard video codec will be just fine for HTML 5.

I'd like to see consumers win over vendors and have consumers dictate any vendors; unfortunately, this will not happen in the future.
Oh-- can't believed Microsoft embraced an OOXML document format as an ISO standard... Microsoft and any other propriety vendors will always be looking for weakness in open standards... *sigh*
