I must say there is a flaw in your plan. You speak about "we" many times in terms of money, however providing cheap energy and overcharging for it to gain the profits necessary for such research only benefits the government of whatever country discovers that first. The public of the immediate time will suffer, as the research will start and they, already adults or even teenagers, most likely will never live to see the fruits of such endeavors.

I agree that there *seems* to be little reason to go to the moon again, however there are some things you cannot verify for yourself unless you go and see. Calculations always have a limit.

Don't put down their idea just yet, put it down after it's done =) (if nothing good comes from it that is). But I do implore you, don't keep thinking of the money of space, because it's more than just a way to make money. Only thinking of the money it can make is insulting to its wonders.
