I'll agree fully with you on that point with one exception
The mobile market. Linux-based mobile OS's
have a ways to go. Apple, RIM and Symbian hold
that market rather tightly with Apple being the
youngest but fastest growing. Sure the G1 is a
good device but American cell companies don't
want it (because they can't lock it down) and
enterprises can't centrally manage them.

Sometimes open-source can be a hinderance. It
dominates the server market because it does
make a great web server that's stable and uses
low resources but truly that's about the only
way we're able to get its server usage stats.
Unlike desktops, many servers never touch the
Internet so it's hardly a sure thing.
