Large companies should...
a) always try to skip a Windows release. Windows 7 is the logical choice as it's built on the Vista ecosystem which is pretty mature at this point.

b) wait to rollout a new OS. As they'll likely buy an enterprise license, or already have one, it would be silly to immediately roll out a brand new OS. Even if I don't think it is necassary to wait for SP1 for most users I do think it's wise to let KB and support articles build, allow the support staff at MS to build up their support articles, etc.

c) Only roll out a new OS after all their software is thoroughly tested.

d) Only roll out a new OS if they have the money to spend and it can justify savings. Assuming they have their XP network configured properly security is less of an issue than it is for a home user.

Windows 7 will be like most operating systems. Home users will eat it up rather quickly, large enterprise will be slowest, SMB/SME will probably be the first to adopt it network wide. Those are the people who stand to save the most with the additional security over XP. However if they've already moved to Vista a mass rollout to 7 is kind of silly. While I like it better, the major reasons for that type of environment to migrate are already present in Vista.
