Congratulations, you got me to register..
Congratulations. You've persuaded me to register, so I could respond to this.
"Linux lacks applications that are needed on the desktop. They have a web browser and a terminal window and that's about it."
Mine came with a web browser.. full office suite.. full graphics suite (albeit not professional quality, but close), an IM client that works with most, if not all, of the IM networks out there.. including MSN.
W* comes with an IM client that works with.. MSN?
Anyway, I'd run out of room listing the (free) applications I have available for the distribution of linux that I use.
While I was idling through comments and stumbled over the drivel that compelled me to respond, I was watching a youtube clip using Adobe flash 10, while watching a (legal) dvd movie, on a second monitor. Sound was mixing just fine, no queueing here, thanks. Did I mention my DVD software was (gasp) free?
I don't mind my kernel updates at all, for security reasons.. those are the same security holes that generally take MS.. what's the speed record, only three months to fix?
Version control? Compiling? Google 'Package manager', my friend. Seriously.
None of my (default installation) boxes have the telnet port open. One has the SSH port open, because I installed it.
I'd strongly suggest giving up on slackware if you can't figure it out. Seriously, Ubuntu is for beginners. It'll work for you too, with some patience.
