Agreed... with two exceptions
1. I think the 21st Amendment is good law as it stands, and should not be changed.

2. While the US Constitution is paramount, it is also the duty of the federal courts to decide disputes over federal law (acts of Congress and treaties), as well as the Constitution. You are correct that judges are supposed to make decisions based on the law, not on their own interpretation of the public welfare. I also believe, as you do, that the written law should be taken literally.
