Nattering Nabobs of Negativity? How About Reality
Thank goodness the cost of flying is as high as it is. Imagine what our landscape would look if the cost of flying were affordable to everyone. As it is there are too many drivers on the road who think they are Grand Prix or Indy drivers. Imagine how many would-be "pilots" would take to the sky with the same reckless abandon as they do on the road. Think of those car owners who take their cars to unscrupulous mechanics to pass a vehicle inspection knowing it would otherwise fail. Now imagine them taking airworthiness with as much disregard.

My point here is that too many people fail to appreciate the full extent of the risks they take every time they sit behind the wheel. If this same attitude were to permeate to the skies, then perhaps what happened to former Yankee pitcher Corey Lidle, in October of 2006 would become a daily occurrence or worse.

We can feel reasonably safe in our homes that of the millions of collisions each year on our roads, only a small handful involve a vehicle crashing into a residence. Could we feel that safe in our homes again knowing that overhead may be an accident or a mechanical breakdown waiting to happen and plane comes crashing through your roof?

One good thing can be said of being on the road. If you break down, you can always pull over and be safe. How many Chesley Sullenbergers are out there?
