Sony's lens maker
Before I read this, I'd been wondering which lens manufacturer
after Carl Zeiss had won Sony's professional SLR line contract.
Well, the Minolta Rokkor line was competitive some two decades
ago, but it seems Minolta-Konica never were able to keep up with
the others. I'm a Sony semipro camera owner and I've found that
Carl Zeiss lenses are a little overrated when judged alongside
Leica, Schneider, Hasselblad and even Canon, Nikkor, Fujinon
and Zuiko lenses. While they're at it, to be truly competitive Sony
probably should also acquire technology from a former European
camera optics leader such as Rollei, Linhof or Voigtlander and
synergize it with Minolta's.
