Not finacial backing but ROI
If the return on investment is there to take people on wild ride then watch what NASA couldn't do. Just think of instead of the international space station think of the international space resort. Personally though I think Space Tourism is just small piece of the pie but the thing that might get corporations out there in space.

Next is resource exploitation.
