Why protectionism won't work
If US companies can be prevented from outsourcing jobs overseas then our wages will increase, which means we will be richer, right?

Wrong! Here's why: Software industry workers do not deserve any special treatment compared to workers in other industries. If software industry jobs are protected from overseas competition then so should manufacturing jobs. All Americans should be forced to buy American made goods and services.

What happens then is that everything will cost more. Cars, televisions, clothes, shoes, computers, software etc will all cost many times more because if they are manufactured by higher-paid US workers.

So what you will find is that you make more money, but your money buys less, in effect making you poorer!

Protectionism is not the way to wealth.

What then is the way to wealth? They way to wealth is to import commodity goods and services at low prices and export non-commodity goods and services at high prices.

Any job that has reached commodity status must be outsourced, and we should move to non-commodity jobs.
