As a recent Legal Immigrant to the US (45 days)
Its amazing how fast US corporations want foreign talent, one day and all H-1B visas gone.

As a recent Legal Immigrant to the US (45 days)
I was able to land a contract job within 30 days of my arrival to the US. My present job allows me to save thousands/month. I also receive calls for at least 2 other job offers each week day (for the record I am over 40).

Now permanent jobs are harder to find, but there are many options available.

The key is willingness to relocate.

With new US laws, coming to the US is a big challenge, definitely a lot more complicated and difficult than obtaining a job. So its not easy to be accepted, even if you have been awarded a legal US visa.

As a foreign trained professional I have been able to complete 90% of the job I was hired to do in 40% of the time that was trusted upon me and should be done with all the job within 50% of the allocated time. Today all other areas within the IT department I work for on a temporary basis, are lagging behind. So I now for a fact that the concept of bad quality, efficiency or delays due to the quality of foreign professionals is a huge misconception by some US citizens. Corporations have come to terms with this and know that this offers them a lot more value.

In contrast many (not all) american workers complain about how bad their job is. In fact yesterday at work during lunch, I overheard a coworked complain about his situation becase he was only given half the time that he asked for for a project. And clearly didn't like to do the work. If he eventually is out of a job, he will learn to value how much its worth and put a lot more effort in keeping his next opportunity.

I do agree that a huge influx of new candidates would cause major problems for US workforce. And definitely the need to pay taxes so that all those who live in this wonderful country can prosper is a necessity and mandatory.

While back in my home country, I applied for many contract jobs within the US. Few were awarded to me, but all my clients were loyal and always came back.

The US like Europe and all developed countries, have a stable economy that is very hard to find elsewhere through out the World. This is taken for granted by its US citizens. The US economy is what must be tendered with care above all interests, so that all its residents can benefit. US corporations, many of its residents and its present government are quite a bit out of touch with this reality.

I state this having seen first hand both sides of the coin, and not based on skewed misperceptions of how reality works outside the US by US residents or within the US by foreigners.
