net books demonstrate inflexibility of proprietary source.
Microsoft had to keep XP specifically for net books because Vista simply would not fit. The only reason why XP fits is because it is an older OS. This demonstrates the problem with proprietary software: it is hard to use for anything other than what it was originally intended for. Now windows 7 is made to work with net books in mind, but what about the next thing on the horizon, which is net book with ARM processor? What about what ever comes after that?

Microsoft is also a huge break on the IT industry. There are many great ideas for centralizing desk top maintenance and saving money, such as thin clients, virtualization, etc. Problem is that none of them work with windows and Microsoft licensing. God forbid it is possible for two people to use software where only one license is paid.
