Why Windows 98?
Microsoft first struck a similar deal with Indiana University in March and has been flooded with calls from schools asking for a comparable agreement. Under the terms of that contract, IU plans to pay $6 million for Microsoft software and distribute Office, Windows 98 and Internet Explorer to students and faculty for free.
