RE: The weirdest computing disasters of 2008
This has to be the biggest YAWN I've read in the past several years.

Weird would be somebody sitting in Central Park and having their hard drive pierced with a javelin hurled by an Aborigine in a loin cloth who had been living unnoticed in the trees for the past 15 years.

Somebody's laptop falling/being thrown overboard; not unusual. I can name two or three of my friends who have had the same experience, minus the ability to pay for data recovery.
