Removing pops from vinyl recordings
There certainly are ways of removing the auible scratches and hissing. Bias make a piece of software called SoundSoap which you can find here:

I haven't used it myself but Bias are pretty good. Whenever I have encoded my vinyl I have used a sound editor to remove really obvious pops (literally deleting them at a sample accurate level). You'll find that removing a pop almost always cleans the recording without leaving a noticeable "hole". As a starting point though - always properly clean your records before encoding with a solution and cloth...makes a lot of difference.
