Battery failure in the BlackBerry is fixed by replacing the battery, with the iPhone you replace the device. Not quite the same cost and surely not comparable failures.

Also, the BlackBerry feels much tougher and will get treated different than the glass-like iPhone. I would not think twice about throwing a BB into my pocket with loose change and keys, but the iPhone would go in my shirt pocket. With the screen facing in.

I also hope they are not assuming the wear and tear for the second year of a device is only twice the wear and tear for the first year.
