RE: EU concerned by airport full-body scanners
Actually we do not live in a different world at all since 9/11 - only a different perception of the world.

9/11 was not an increase in terrorism, it was the simultaneous action of a very small number of terrorist events which resulted in a proportionately large loss of life. The real difference though is that it took place on American soil.

In reality, there is probably less terrorism rather than more, a trend which began way before 9/11 with the dissolution of many of the groups that had been active through the preceeding decades such as the Irish, Basques and left-wing lunatics. Even the PLO, Fatah, Black September, etc etc were scaling down activities in response to real dialogue.

The idea that we should fight those who seek to take away our freedom by taking away our freedom is ludicrous. Measures like this, and Gitmo, are just handing victory to the elements of extreme Islam that would destroy the West and out values without them even having to bother to fight to achieve that victory.
