This has to be a marketing ploy.

Otherwise we'd have to take seriously Sony's explanation that it removed the song in deference to the feelings of Muslims -- the removal of which stupidly assumes that incorporating into a song phrases from the Koran is offensive to anyone who has an inkling of sense.

Pandering to the supposed sensitivities of Muslims does them a great disservice and is what is truly offensive because it assumes that Muslims are not emotionally capable of dealing with the integration of their religion into the rest of the world.

In fact, Sony's position only makes sense if we assume that Sony believes that the radical Muslims who riot on every perceived slight reflect the true nature of Islam. Now that is offensive.

But Sony has no interest -- financial or otherwise -- in promoting religious tolerance. The reason they've pulled the song is out of ignorance, reflexive fear, and to generate publicity. None of which, in this context, are honorable.
