Dhimmi means ?protected?. Dhimmitude is a term coined in 1982 by the Lebanese Maronite militia leader Bachir Gemayel, in reference to ?perceived? attempts by the country's Muslim leadership to subordinate the large Lebanese Christian minority. So if you read the original text i.e. the holy Qu?ran, a Muslim government is bound to protect the rights, the religious freedom and religious shrines of the non-Muslims.

Again if you are going to learn about Islam from an unauthentic source, the results would be a whole lot of misunderstanding. If any government does not hold up the spirit of this term, they are actually doing something against Islam themselves. Like for example if a thief happened to be a Christian would it be right to say that Christianity promotes stealing? of course not that would be preposterous. The person who stole something went against his religion. That?s the same with some so-called Muslim Governments.

I hope that Muslims in your country are given the status of a dhimmi and are protected, not persecuted.
