Already Familiar

GNOME and KDE have been around for a long time, longer than Window XP. To a Linux user, they are already familiar. Linux is not popular with the masses simply because it does not come preinstalled on consumer PCs, and because most companies do not use Linux on the desktop. If Linux were installed by default on most PCs, instead of Windows, it would be Microsoft that would be having a hard time cracking the market. People love what they know, and fear what they do not.
