- RE: Microsoft launches software for cheap Portuguese laptop
- It is a little confusing that the article says Portugal plans to hand out 500,000 to Portuguese students at a cost of 50 Euros and plans to sell the obviously minimized laptop (minimized to maximize distribution to the target student audience) for 285 Euros to other countries. Is this a for profit venture to 3rd world countries? You can buy a nice netbook right now with XP in the USA with a 120 gig hard drive for $350 dollars, not EUROS. Something is wrong with the second half of this article. This seems like a perfect match for Brazilian students who are badly behind the rest of the world due to continued political corruption of epic proportions. Even if the Brazilian politically elite took their percentage, this laptop would go a long ways in evening the playing field for the 50+ million disadvantaged students here in Brazil. That is if their former colonizers were willing to build and ship at the same price as the Portuguese or at least closer to 50 than 285 Euros.
