RE: Microsoft launches software for cheap Portuguese laptop
People here have a good point. Kids can't be monopolized like that. But why don't Mac and Linux make a free downloadable version -FIT- to Magalh?es?
That way you could teach MS a lesson instead of coming here and say "oh no people are monopolized by MS" <- which is true, I'm european and I'm aware of the EU lawsuits to MS about unfair competition and all that.

Stop being sorry for yourselves and do something, make a cheaper, faster, simplier, greater OS for Magalh?es and you'll win the race. Hey I'll get your OS for my kid's Magalh?es when I get a kid!

Apart from the OS, this thing is purely great. I must say most of my knowledge coming from my own researches would be practically impossible without a computer and internet. Without it I would be doomed to TV programing and not having patience to look for the right books. This is about ACCESS OF INFORMATION. Sure they can access PORN too if you as a parent aren't smart enough to block it, but he can always outsmart you to unblock it. I don't mind if my kid would look at PORN as long he would know the risks of sexual deseases and all that crap.
Ultimatly, it's up to the parents to choose how good education your child receives.

Oh and don't forget about all those families that can't afford computers, poor kids are finally going to be able to get a FREE computer with FREE internet access. It's democratization of the information technology. Hurray for european techno-socialism!

Ah yeah, it's political propaganda, but it was in the political program when we all voted for the prime minister. So yeah, people VOTED for this.
