RE: Businesses focus on Windows 7, XP over Vista
The problem with Vista... There is no need to migrate and many reasons not!

1. Up front cost! Will need OS licenses and hardware capable of running. Sometime in 2010 the hardware and licenses should be there as the old falls off lease.

2. Applications - Many current applications will not run without some kind of mitigation or upgrade. No money or time to do all that effort.

3. In the midst of updating the basic application package. Not cheap. Gonna be another year to get there.

4. Change to user interface for, basically, changes sake. No thanks. Training dollars and productivity loss. Not what upper management wants to hear.

5. Compatibility with legacy systems. Spent allot of time to trace down and fix many of these, some left to find.

6. User Access Control - Great idea. Extremely poor implementation!

7. All new updates to management, AV, firewall software packages. In some cases, need to upgrade infrastructure. Not painless and quiet expensive. Gonna be late 2009 before it is all in place.

8. Now it will be late 2009 before can finally place a stable Vista image with the basic software for testing by the custom application teams. This is the software that makes the company work. Think there may be some issues there? Some more money gonna be needed to bring them all into Vista alignment?

9. Support! Due to complexity in the environment and overall effort to support, we do not support multiple versions. During the brief upgrade period is the only exception.

I sure HOPE that all the effort going into making things work on Vista will carry over to the next OS version.
