RE: VMware vs Microsoft: Place your bets
Why is there so much noise about Hyper-V being cheaper
than VMware? Compare apples to apples. Hyper-V is a
hypervisor. It compares most favorably with ESXi,
which is a hypervisor (and, by the way, is FREE). If
you want to manage your Hyper-V environment, you need
SCVMM - which is NOT FREE (just like VirtualCenter is
not free).

If you want the advanced features that you
can get only with VMware, you have no choice...pay the
price of admission and get in the game.

If you can get by without the bells and whistles, then
compare Hyper-V and ESXi and make your choice. They're
both free and they'll both likely meet your needs.
ESXi has some neat things that Hyper-V doesn't
(including a clear growth path to the full VMware
solution set...)
