Autostarting Applications: GNOME vs KDE vs Xfce
How do you autostart an app in KDE? Don't you have to create a startup file in ~/.kde/autostart or something? In GNOME, there is a GUI for that (maybe in KDE too, but I could never figure out where). In Xfce, however, you have to add a launcher file to ~/.autostart, unless of course the application has the option to autostart, and it (the app) knows where to put the launcher.

On the other hand, both KDE and Xfce have single-click-to-launch options. In GNOME, you are limited to double-click.

But GNOME's desktop appearance applet is far easier to use than KDE's mind-numbing theme control. And compiz (desktop effects) works smoothly and easily with GNOME; in KDE compiz causes psychotic hallucinations and mental breakdowns.

So Linux really does need usability improvements (that's my point).
