Where is the new rifle?

Since the Vietnam era, soldiers have been armed with a jam prone individual weapon. A better weapon made by H&K is available, but a new rifle does not have the "sex appeal" of these toys. If the Army's officer corps really had the welfare of the combat troops as its first priority, they would roll out a better individual rifle immediately, rather than this "stuff." Instead the "ticket punchers" use their access to Congress to propose expensive "pie-in-the-sky" systems which each Congressman hopes will be built in his or her district.
